How to convert an internal hard drive to an external hard drive to recover data

Internal hard drives contain all information stored in your computer or laptop system. The easiest method to recover your data is taking the hard drive of your computer if you experience a hardware failure and do not have a recent backup. Then install the drive in another computer or turn it into an external drive to recover your data. Convert your internal drive to an external model requires a connection USB or Fire wire. It will work just like any other external hard drive , after installing the unit.




Step 1


Buy an external hard drive case in a local computer store or online. Make sure you buy a compatible hard drive box. Buy a box of 3.5 inches, if the drive is in a desktop computer. Buy a box of 2.5 inch portable systems. Systems manufactured after 2006 typically include a SATA interface, but be sure to confirm the interface of your hard drive with the manufacturer's manual to buy a compatible box.


Step 2


Turn off the computer if needed. Unplug from the wall and remove the battery in portable systems.


Step 3


Remove the screws from the back of most desktop and slide the box to remove. Remove the screws holding the hard drive in the drive cage and disconnect it from the motherboard to remove it completely from the computer. Consult the manufacturer's manual for specific instructions or dis assembly instructions laptops .


Step 4


Open external hard drive enclosure. Insert the hard disk according to the instructions that come with your box. In most cases you will be able to slide the hard drive in the box.


Step 5


Close the external hard drive enclosure. Connect adapters that come with the box. Plug one end of a USB or Fire wire cable in the box and the other end into the computer. The operating system detects and installs the hard drive automatically. You can recover your data using Windows Explorer or Finder.
