How to train your puppy to do his business

Has a new puppy? Unless you want that you pee in your household, you'll need to train it. It will be a relief not to worry about your dog does his business in the wrong place. Train is an important part of caring for a dog, and a basic knowledge of what to do, you will succeed in no time.

1. Knowing the behavior of dogs

Understand the behavior of dogs
Most importantly, the dogs do not distinguish right from wrong. I understand that a dog is "safe" and "dangerous." When your puppy comes to you, do not understand that the bad behavior is urinating on your carpet. For your puppy, the carpet is just an extension of where he walks. It is also a warm and comfortable to be rather dirty and cold outside courtyard instead.
Teach your dog to urinate or defecate in the house is unacceptable. You can accomplish this surprising your dog in the act, not after it has already occurred, but while it is occurring. Punishing your dog after the unwanted behavior may confuse your dog, making the process much more difficult to train. After your dog into the house, immediately take him outside and show him the right place to do. Be friendly and show him the dog simply the place you prefer, after scolding only confuse him.

Never physically punish your dog. Is not only cruel, but also instill bad associations and therefore bad behavior, like crawling under something to defecate and hide it from you. I punish you teach your puppy to fear you, not to change their natural habits.

Learn about the natural limits of his bladder.
The age your puppy has to do with the dog's ability to be trained and the amount of time it can take between when you go to the bathroom. A general guide is:

  • A puppy that has been weaned soon have difficulties to be trained and have many other problems too. The potty training between weeks 5 and 7 should occur during the litter since many beneficial social behavior are transferred during this time.
  • Training between 8-16 weeks should be consistent. This is the time when puppies learn that they are in a safe or dangerous environment. Make the world safe for your puppy and train it consistently. You also agree that bladder control is just for puppies in this range, and may seem to know what they are expected to do one day and the other does not. Do not take if you were playing hard, it's just the act of a baby learning to control his bladder.
  • At 16 weeks: A puppy can usually hold up to four hours. (Before this, the bladder can withstand about 2 hours before the puppy has to go.)
  • At 4-6 months: puppies in this age group usually may seem "average" trained due to its ability to be easily distracted. You may want to explore the world, which means chasing a moth can cause your needs not to do when you take your place. By then, four months a puppy can hold about four to five hours before needing to go to the bathroom, while a puppy six months can hold up to six or seven hours.
  • 6-12 months: Sexual maturity can make males lift their leg to urinate on the furniture, while females begin to be in heat. The bladder can hold seven to eight hours before it needs to be released again.
  • 12-24 months: Depending on the breed, your puppy may not be an adult yet. Hopefully, you've established a good training for this stage, but if not, you can still do it, even with adult dogs.
Keep in mind your dog breed.
Larger dogs tend to be trained more easily than small, simply because the children have to go more frequently (with smaller digestive systems). Smaller dogs can also be put to evacuate places where perhaps not notice or can not find it until they form a bad habit. Be the persevering training a small dog like a dog of any size and will succeed. Remember, there is nothing cute about that do their business inside the house, no matter how cute the dog is, do not assume that minor mishaps simply "pass".

2.Creating an enabling environment

Choose a house or dog cage.
Proper home is crucial to teach the puppy that is important to his own away from areas where it eats and sleeps. A puppy that is not able to move from these areas can learn from small to go anywhere, because that is what has always been allowed. The house also gives you security, most dogs love to curl up in something that cradles like a burrow in a wild environment. When you sit at home, leaving the door open to go when needed. When you need to lock your puppy, take the time to ensure your safety. You can close the door of his cage, leaving your puppy in a kind of base camp.
  • The cage can be the type you use to transport dogs on a plane or a simple laundry basket with a lid superimposed. You can be creative, but basically your dog should not be able to escape. Most puppies and dogs will not make the bathroom in his cage.
  • Use the cage to put him away for long. When you need to go to work, leave the house for a while or do an activity that you can not take your puppy, you can put it in their cage. When you get home or finish the activity, you can take your puppy immediately and not give the opportunity to make the bathroom inside.
  • As mentioned earlier, puppies under 16 weeks can only hold their bladder for up to two hours while the puppies over 16 weeks may do so for up to four hours. Never lock up the puppy any longer of these natural limits, or you will cause to make a mess.
  • Use a cage is great for young dogs. At some point in the life of your dog, you will probably be in a cage. Go to the vet, traveling and visiting aesthetics require that your dog is in a cage. It is better to accustom while young. However, if the cage is too big, the dog can excrete it anyway. Dogs do not "do" in their immediate territory. Some dogs go somewhere to 9 or 10 feet away, and some will go to one that is 3 to 4 feet. Make sure the cage is compact.
Choose a designated area for your puppy to relieve himself before bringing home area.
This point may be somewhere in the garden. Whatever, keep a firm commitment to be there before you get the puppy, so you do not think an inconsistent message by changing your place to go to the bathroom in the yard while you decide.

3. Develop a schedule

Develop a schedule.
Putting a meal schedule your puppy during the train can make your efforts more successful. A puppy that is allowed to eat when you want to make it very difficult to potty train. Also, develop a schedule to take your dog outside it easier for you. Always take your dog 15 to 20 minutes after the meal, like clockwork.
  • The most important thing when training a puppy (or dog) is consistency. If you are consistent and do the same and expect the same action each time, your puppy will realize very quickly. On the other hand, if you change your actions and what you expect, your puppy will be confused and do what feels right at the time, no matter what you want it to do. Create a good routine and ensures predictability.
  • A puppy should be taken out immediately (to a predetermined area outside the home):
  • When you wake up in the morning (or before, if you wake up before the puppy)
  • After each meal
  • After each nap
  • Before you go to sleep at night
When you bring your puppy home the first day, immediately begins to train him.
After you have entered your new home and surroundings, give him a drink of water and immediately take him outside to do his business. Take the puppy to an area you choose before you take it home.

As soon as your puppy finishes, praise him and take him in immediately.
From that point, take the puppy to the same spot each time and encourage him with a command like "go the bathroom" or "hurry up" or whatever you choose. Once you start, do not say anything more. When finished, praise him and reward him immediately. You must let him know that your dog is behaving correctly. During the training process, is a good idea to take your dog on a leash. If you leave your dog in a fenced area and you're not there, you will not be able to tell that it is not acting appropriately.

Be consistent using the same command for the process train.
This allows the puppy to associate this act with the same command, which will help in the future, especially in a new environment or location when traveling, visit friends or relatives etc.. That is completely trained is the result you are looking for.

Involves all.
If you live alone with your puppy, this step will be easier. If your puppy lives in a house with more than one person, make sure everyone is following the steps to make the process faster and easier. The more we all adhere to the plan, the faster the progress.

Remove the water puppy at night.
Do not give water after about 6:00 in the afternoon, or maybe you'll have to make more trips so you can do your needs.

4.Clean the dump

Clean any accidents (many have) quickly and completely.
Wooden floors and tiles will be mopped and then sprayed with disinfectant. The carpets need to be cleaned with a carpet cleaner. This is probably the most important step because dogs have a great sense of smell. If you can still smell the urine, they will urinate in the same place. So you must also have a designated area outside.
  • Many people buy commercial cleaners at the supermarket. Many of these products contain ammonia. Ammonia smells like urine to your dog. So if your dog urinates on the carpet and clean with the ammonia product, your dog will return to the same place and think that another dog has urinated there. Your dog will urinate there again to cover the smell.
  • The commercially produced pet cleaners contain enzymes which suppress urine odor that attracts the puppy to the same spot. These can be purchased at pet stores, online, with your veterinarian and chain stores. Are most effective for "remove" ways, not only cover the smell.
  • Some people say that white distilled vinegar works well. After that uses bicarbonate and sucks the residue when it dries. However, do not be surprised if this does not work as well as expected; spend your money on the commercial cleaner is the best you can do if this home remedy does not work.

5.  Increase time gradually unsupervised

Let your puppy free walk around the house with supervision at first.
Allows periods are longer when you're sure you ask when you have to leave. This strategy should not take more than two weeks to get used.

Once your puppy is trained and go to the door crying when you need to go to the bathroom, you will be trained completely.
But remember, if you leave him alone in the house and no one to take him out, you have to do in a place in the house. Do not be angry with the puppy. The same applies if you ignore the puppy when he says he needs to go outside. Not the fault of the puppy, it's your fault.
  • Do not be surprised if you suddenly defecate indoors when you thought that was already trained. This can happen for several reasons, such as sexual maturity, change in routine, curiosity, etc.. Simply return to the constant practice of taking the puppy to its assigned place after meals, as mentioned above, and is doing this for some time.
6. Leave the puppy unsupervised

Place a swing door for your puppy.
If you have an adequate fence (where a puppy can not get below or above) and a door, this method would be great. If by chance has no fence or gate, your puppy can make him flee or pursue other big dogs if there are many stray dogs in the area. Make sure there is no hole that passes under the door that another dog could have dug. You should also be aware of the wild animals that can eat your puppy as mongooses, coyotes, etc..

Espace newspapers in a corner for your puppy urinate.
This method would be good for people with unprotected compounds. This is just in case the puppy has to go and can not wait for you to come back home.

Ask someone to watch your puppy if sales books.
Occasionally we have to leave for a business trip or vacation. If so, there must be someone to care for the puppies. If you live with your family or friends, ask them to take care while you're away. If the whole family is going, ask someone who knows all about the care of the puppies. Put the personal aware of your schedule, where they sleep, what to feed them and what NOT to feed them, etc.. Than you can go quiet. Otherwise, leave them in a kennel (a place where people take care of dogs / puppies while you're out.) Either is a good choice.

Advice
  • Do not be angry with your puppy, because he will not understand anyway. Remember to take the dog for a walk regularly and be kind to your new friend and have a puppy tamed in no time!
  • Watch your puppy like a hawk all the time, especially at the beginning of training. If you can not watch it for some reason, put it in a safe and puppy-proof place (like a cage or something with little space and easy to clean flooring such as linoleum, closed with a baby gate so you can have a look if you need).
  • Leave the dish puppy food all day is a bad idea if you want to train (or keep in shape). A puppy should get half a cup of food and about two cups of water twice a day in 1-15 weeks. As they grow just take it easy. Do not go giving him half a cup to 3 cups too fast.
  • Always reward good behavior and caressing nice talking, ignore bad behavior as much as possible. I put it back in your kennel is not considered a punishment but sometimes necessary, so do it with love and talking nice if you can. Soon learn that good behavior gives you more time with you and look it over everything else.
  • If you are consistent with training the dog at first, especially when it is convenient for you (at night, while you're watching your favorite TV show, etc..), Give the puppy to tell you when you need to go.
  • If he cries a lot at first, try not to encourage it by giving much attention. You can move the crate next to your bed and hang your hand to comfort the baby in those first nights. After that, a slap on the top of the cage and a "No" sign they will know you are not happy with that behavior. Try to wear him out so you can sleep in the first few nights that pass you.
  • Most dogs will learn to associate a specific door to exit. As the puppy grows, he will go to the door to be let out. Each dog will develop any habit that makes the door open. For some it is barking, for others it is run to the door and back to you, and others will scratch the door (this should not be encouraged if you do not want to have to replace the door).
  • If you need to remove the smell, pour a teaspoon of vanilla extract in the area where the puppy has eliminated. The puppy will not be able to smell the urine and not have the urge to urinate there again.
  • When your puppy make your outside needs (or where required), you might think that you should ALWAYS reward your puppy with treats. Not a good idea to constantly give sweet prizes puppies will not be good for the puppy. But if you're one of those people who think that the awards are the only way to train properly, you are not alone. Many people think so. Instead of giving your puppy sweet prizes constantly, give chopped carrots. The carrots are healthier and help strengthen teeth. You can still throw a sweet occasionally. You should not always give awards either, it depends on you that you give prizes every time you put in the right place. Instead, I reward him by saying "good girl" or "good boy", as these awards will never end.
Warnings
  • Remember that your puppy will get used to your schedule. So even if you have the day off, you still need to wake up to take your dog to the usual time. Dogs are creatures of routine.
