What is Birth Plan

What is Birth Plan

What is it?

The birth plan is your opportunity to express your wishes about how you would like childbirth develops, listing your preferences and giving it to meet the medical team that will assist you. It is not mandatory, but it is a possibility to have some control over the delivery.

Preferences that you must enter in your birth plan:

Who you choose to accompany you during labor: your partner, your mother, a friend, etc..

If you want a water birth (if you go the clinic offers that option).

By what kind of method you choose to fight pain: gas and air, epidural, etc..

If you want to be artificially rush the fall of the placenta.

If you prefer an episiotomy (surgical cutting of the perineum, which is the skin between the vagina and anus) or you let it naturally produces its tear.

If you agree with that labor is induced or naturally want to begin.

If you want music in the delivery room.

How you want your baby to be monitored.

What you choose to give birth position: squatting, kneeling, prone, etc..

If you want to put your baby on your chest immediately after birth.

If you intend to breastfeed or not.

How it works?

Discuss this birth plan with your partner for his inclinations. Once you've written your preferences in a role clearly marked with your name and your partner, make copies for you, for the midwife and the medical team.

Do you add pressure if you come at delivery you decide to do something different from what you had stated in your plan. If you had chosen and gas air amid soothing and labor can not stand the pain and want the epidural do not worry. It is difficult to anticipate what you are going to feel at the crucial moment.

You must understand that in case of an emergency, where there is a risk to your health or the baby, the birth plan can be ignored. Your medical team will do its best to accommodate your wishes, but always have as a priority the welfare of your health and that of your son.
