Nitrate in beetroot juice and blood pressure

As dietary nitrate in beets and leafy greens sources are converted to nitric oxide by a prolonged biological process. Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels and dilates.

This helps the blood to flow more easily thereby lowering blood pressure.

The registered dietitian Norman Hord, associate professor of the Faculty of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University says Professor nitrates are probably "the most powerful component in lowering blood pressure diet."
According to Hord, previous studies have found most impressive reductions in blood pressure up to 10 points three hours after drinking beet juice.
